Sizzla, the Jamaican reggae artist, joins Swiss production duo Derrick Sound on Jah Is Always Near, a roots reggae recording centred on faith, spiritual strength and keeping Jah close through difficult times.
In Jah Is Always Near, Sizzla’s lyrics keep returning to the reassurance that Jah remains present even when life becomes difficult. The writing speaks about faith as something active, not just a belief kept for peaceful moments. His delivery carries the conviction of someone reminding himself and others that hardship does not mean God has disappeared.
Derrick Sound’s production gives the record a strong roots reggae foundation, with a weighty bass line holding the rhythm together while the rest of the arrangement leaves clear space for Sizzla’s voice. The recording was made at Sizzla’s Judgment Yard studio in August Town, Jamaica. Derrick Sound is based in Geneva, Switzerland, and is formed by Mr Nico and Inspecta Derrick.

Sizzla does not treat faith as an escape from problems; he sings from the position that Jah remains present while those problems are being faced.
